I was asking myself this question tonight - what does a man live for after a certain age if it is not money? All work is futile if you're a true visionary - nothing is irreplaceable - nothing beats innovation and change. So if in this process of impermanency, your vision is lost or taken over by someone else's in the long run, there is nothing to panic. It is normal.
We do not dwell in an ideal world. All that we do, all our work may not actually benefit lives equally. Some of our work may come at the expense of class and gender inequality, inequity in wealth and education and may as well cause general unhappiness to a few while improving other lives.
It is then our standard of living that we struggle to keep up and improve upon. That is the way I view my job for now.
I want it to change. And change big time.
I want to view my profession as one that will touch and transform lives, momentarily or for ever. With this resolution, I am going to hit the sack tonight.
